This is one of the most common questions we get — PVC-coated collars do have more structure than fabric, but they're surprisingly flexible and comfortable once on your pup.
The collar is flexible enough to bend and shape in your hands. With regular wear it softens slightly and naturally conforms to your dog's neck. The edges are smooth and won't cause rubbing or chafing under normal conditions.

BioThane® is actually a brand name (owned by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp.) for a specific type of PVC or TPU-coated polyester webbing made in the USA. Think of it like 'Kleenex' for tissues — Biothane is the branded version of a broader material category.
Our collars use PVC-coated polyester webbing that works on the same principle: polyester webbing core + PVC outer coating = waterproof, odor-proof, easy-to-clean. The performance characteristics are the same — non-porous, flexible, durable, and stink-proof.
Bottom line: if someone mentions a 'Biothane collar,' they're talking about the same category of waterproof coated webbing collar that we make.
Yes, it is safe — PVC-coated webbing is hypoallergenic and latex-free, making it a great choice for dogs with sensitive skin. Because it's non-porous and doesn't absorb moisture, it's less likely to harbor the bacteria and mold that can cause skin irritation with fabric collars.
That said, any collar — regardless of material — can cause irritation if it's fitted too tight, left on when wet for extended periods, or not checked regularly. We recommend:
• Fitting the collar snugly but with room for two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck
• Checking under the collar regularly for any signs of redness or irritation
• Removing the collar during rest time if your dog is prone to skin issues
